Smuggling of Migrants to Europe: A Phenomenological Analysis of New Trends

Abstract

This report explores emerging trends in the illegal smuggling of migrants to Europe, using a pioneering approach that integrates fieldwork with open source intelligence (OSINT). It analyses smuggling routes, recruitment methods, logistical structures, and the profiles of those involved, including state-supported networks in Turkey and Belarus. Economic dynamics and community perceptions surrounding trafficking are also examined, alongside a non-cross-border human trafficking case study. The report concludes with actionable recommendations to strengthen national and EU-level responses to irregular migration and trafficking.
