Smuggling of Fuel from North Africa to Europe via Albania

Smuggling of Fuel from North Africa to Europe via Albania

Abstract

Analysts uncovered a major fuel smuggling operation involving large quantities of refined gasoline trafficked from Tunisia to Albania. The fuel, concealed within cement shipments, was seized by Albanian authorities in Durres. Investigations are ongoing, led by Albanian prosecutors and customs departments. The Tunisian Ministry of Industry has denied involvement, asserting that the ships in question were officially carrying only cement and that minimal gasoline was loaded at Tunisian ports during the relevant period.
