UNCHAINED

Disrupting the Human Trafficking Chain through a Follow-the-Money Approach

Trafficking in human beings (THB) is a complex, adaptive, and profit-driven crime that, despite its concealed nature, leaves financial traces exploitable for investigation.

The UNCHAINED project strengthens the capacity of law enforcement agencies (LEAs), financial investigators, and private/public sector actors to detect and disrupt THB through financial enquiries and big data analytics.

Operating across three pilot countries and extending EU-wide, the project delivers innovative training—reaching 120 direct beneficiaries initially—via a train-the-trainers model and multiplayer virtual reality serious gaming based on real-life case studies and business model trends. UNCHAINED also establishes a European Expert and Trainers’ Network to sustain impact post-project.

Grounded in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) definition of financial investigation, the project promotes cross-border, cross-sector cooperation and standardisation in counter-THB strategies by aligning investigative methodologies with emerging financial crime patterns and evidence-based practices.
