EdReStart

Education for a New Beginning

The project brings together prison staff, educators, and social professionals from multiple European countries with the aim of improving educational and rehabilitative practices within penitentiary environments.

The main goal of EdReStart is to enhance the quality of education and social reintegration opportunities for persons deprived of liberty. The project focuses on the integration of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics) education and the development of supportive skills for prison staff, providing innovative tools, training, and methodologies to support both professional development and inmate rehabilitation.

Key Objectives:

  1. Development of tailored training programs for teachers and prison staff, including the use of digital platforms, modern teaching methods, and interactive educational resources adapted to the penitentiary context.
  2. Training and certification of staff in STEAM and supportive skills, increasing their competences to implement educational activities and promote civic, social, and professional development among inmates.
  3. Creation of a sustainable educational model, including a digital platform for course delivery, flexible curricula, and practical training tools that can be adapted to different institutional contexts.
  4. Promoting social reintegration of persons deprived of liberty by enhancing educational engagement, inclusion, and individual support strategies.

Activities and Methodology:

EdReStart combines face-to-face and online training, project management meetings, job shadowing activities, and dissemination events to share good practices across partner institutions. Staff members participate in international mobility activities to observe, learn, and exchange experiences related to STEAM education and supportive programs.

A key component of the project is the development of a digital training platform, inspired by the practices of partner institutions, which will serve as a tool for both teaching and administrative support. The platform will provide interactive modules, lesson templates, assessment tools, and resources for both teachers and inmates, allowing staff to create, manage, and track educational activities in a flexible way. Job shadowing activities allow staff to learn from the design, structure, and content of existing platforms, understand the methods used to engage learners, and adapt these features to their own institutional environment. This ensures that the platform is both practical and tailored to the specific needs of the prison educational context, while fostering the development of innovative teaching approaches.

Expected Outcomes:

  • Enhanced competences of prison staff in STEAM education and supportive skills.
  • Development of integrated teaching materials and individualized educational plans for inmates.
  • Implementation of a sustainable, flexible educational model that can be adapted to other institutions.
  • Strengthened collaboration between European penitentiary institutions, promoting the exchange of innovative practices.

EdReStart fosters a professional and inclusive learning environment, bridging academic knowledge and practical application. By combining modern educational methods with a focus on social and civic skills, the project aims to positively impact the professional development of staff and the social reintegration of inmates.
