Through four International Steering Committees (ISC) and 6 Experts User Groups (EUG) the partnership analysed the interrelations between security and accessibility needs within the specific sector of water distribution systems.
The following results stemmed from a complex management of 8 integrated Work Packages:
- We defined a comparative methodology to map the underground services and designed a strategy to harmonize the INSPIRE Directive with SECURITY legal framework at EU Level;
- We carried out a unique counterterrorism exercise by simulating a real attack to the water network in Milano to assess resistance and resilience of the water networks (Risk analysis of CIs);
- We contributed to the exchange of technical data and disseminated the three best practices identified in Sweden, Poland and Italy;
- We developed a new Training Profile for Security Expert in underground CIs Protection and tested it through 2 training of the trainers courses at EU Level.
In general terms the project contributed to improve the relationship between public and private sector aimed at protecting critical infrastructures and enhanced the capacity of all stakeholders to share good practices. In this sense the EUG panels represented a very
important informal platform to achieve tangible results through multi-agency cooperation.
