SOURCE aims to promote judicial cooperation by supporting the implementation and practical application of EU judicial cooperation legal instruments, and particularly the Directive 2014/41/EU, in relation to the employment of new technologies, particularly in the field of interception and surveillance, in transnational investigations. This will be achieved through the integrated development of a European network of practitioners and experts on new interception technologies and the EU legal system, as well as through the creation of a decentralised and participatory observatory on new investigative technologies and EU legal instruments. 

The network of practitioners and the observatory will be tasked to conduct or develop the following macro-activities:

• A preliminary assessment, through questionnaires, of the main problems, gaps and needs concerning the application of EU legal instruments for judicial cooperation, particularly the EIO, in relation to transnational investigation which involve new and digital technologies.
• 4 regional Communities of Practice which will delve deeper in the topics emerged from the assessment in order to identify best practices and modus operandi that facilitate and/or make more effective the use of the above-mentioned EU legal instruments.
• An online and publicly available catalogue for best practices, modus operandi and relevant information in the field of judicial cooperation concerning the application of EU legal instruments in relation to the above-mentioned transnational investigations.
• 4 regional Immersive Joint Exercises which, through the use of immersive technologies (360° videos and VR), will allow the practitioners to take part in a series of simulations of transnational investigations and work cooperatively on the application of EU judicial cooperation legal instruments in relation to the use of new and digital technologies.
